Welcome to Fit 'n' Furry's Biggest Loser 8 Challenge!


Why play? Being publicly accountable will help you maximize your weight loss, and competition is part of the fun of the game! Your rate of loss will be calculated by the percentage of weight you lose, NOT by pounds lost, so you'll have a level playing field regardless of your starting weight. If you are a slow loser, don't be psyched out--this competition may help you lose faster and, if you are 100% diligent, you may be surprised by how well you compete!

CONTEST RULES, DETAILS, AND PRIZES

The challenge lasts a total of 8 weeks starting this Monday, January 13th. It will end on Monday, March 10th, 2014.

How to enter: Get your camera ready! EVERYONE will be required to snap a quick picture of themselves on their scales showing their starting weight. Use your phone, iPod, digital camera, etc. to snap the picture, upload it, then share it in the first weigh-in thread (which will be posted on Monday, January 13th). Please make sure it is clear/legible to the best of your ability! Comment with your photo AND your starting weight, and you will be entered into the competition.

After that, all you'll need to do is continue to post on each weigh-in with that same information every Monday. You will NOT need to take a new picture every week! Only for the first and last weigh-ins. We will do all the tracking/calculating and share the results each week so you guys know where you stand!

Weigh-ins: Weekly weigh-ins are REQUIRED. There will be a 24 hour "buffer period" that will allow contestants to post their weigh-ins by midnight (EST/Eastern Standard Time) the day after the weigh-in. So technically, you have all day Monday AND Tuesday to get your weigh-in posted. If I receive a comment notification in my inbox that has a timestamp of 12:02am Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, I'm sorry, but you were too late!

Eliminations: Missing a weigh-in is grounds for elimination, as is gaining weight two weeks in a row. Once eliminated, players will not have their weights tracked further or be eligible to re-enter the competition. However, you can continue to post to the weigh-ins to help you stay accountable and keep us updated on your progress every week. There will always be more challenges to join later on!

Travel: If you know that you will be traveling (vacation, conventions, etc.) and will miss a weigh-in, you may do so legitimately provided you let me know well ahead of time. Send me a Private Message (not a comment in a thread) and make sure that I acknowledge. If you have access to the internet and a scale while away from home, I encourage you to stay on track.

Exercise: We will track exercise minutes, but there is NO minimum exercise requirement. We all know exercise will help you lose faster. It's up to you if you want to reap those benefits.

Weekly mission: Each week, we will post a special mission (in the form of a challenge or question) as part of the contest. Like exercising, the missions are optional, but they’re a fun way to keep the conversation rolling between weigh-ins and keep you thinking about your progress and goals.

Weight-Maintainers/Non-losers: Join us! Though you can't win the overall challenge if you aren't losing, your input is invaluable to those of us still working towards goal. We need cheerleaders!

Winner Verification: At the end of this challenge, you will be required to take a picture of your scale with you on it in order to prove that you are the weight you claim to be. Just snap a quick photo like you did in the beginning of the challenge and upload it and share it along with your weigh-in on the last day. I don't want to ever question anyone's honesty, but because there are prizes involved, it is the only fair way to be sure this challenge is judged fairly.

Prizes: If we have more than ten people participate in the challenge, as well as ten who actually finish the challenge (meaning at least ten people weigh-in on the last day), then we will have one first place winner and one second place winner. If that requirement is not met, then we will only have one winner and one prize, which the winner may choose from below. If there are two winners, then the first winner will have first pick of custom art from TWO of the artists listed below (you chose what you want). The second winner will then be able to chose ONE artist after the first winner has chosen their prize.

Building character

Hello there everyone!

I'm in a current situation where I simply need to ask for some advice or help..

Altough I can see that I am not the way I'd like to be, I simply can't really put myself into doing something about it.
With this I mean eating less..

I exercise a bit (not enough, I know), I bike to work for example and I try to walk what I can walk.
But my big problem, where I feel I'm really packing the pounds is my portions. I do eat rather healthy (I do 'sin' sometimes of course), but I always always have to have big portions..
I can't bring myself to try a small portion, or to eat half of it. I have trouble leaving food, so I tend to help myself to my bf his plate once he's done.
Somehow I get this feeling that I'll be hungry, so I always eat quick, and I eat a lot..
I really can't tell myself not to, I try to tell it to myself every day, knowing how unhappy I am (I managed to lose a little over 10kg last summer, only to gain it all back and more..), but once that food is on the table or I get hungry, I just can't can't control that voice that says 'you can and you should!'
(And even if I have 1 good day (which was months and months ago), I simply fall back into it the next day)

Does anyone have any tips or advice they can help me for trying to build some character?
I simply keep having the same pattern over and over without being able to break it!

Advice needed!

Hey all!!
So I need some advice with managing my eating habits.  I feel like one of the largest obstacle in my way is having the correct food in my home.  I pretty much have zero will-power when it comes to holding off from eating whatever I want that is in my apartment, so I need to only buy the foods that are good for me (as my mom says, "It's in the house, it's in the mouth").  I need to create a sort of meal plan ahead of time, and then only go buy those foods for those meals.  But i'm SO bad at shopping like this, I normally just pop over to the store and buy whatever I need to the meal that night.

Do any of you guys have any advice on how to create a healthy meal plan for say, like a whole week?

I just... I want to brag a *little bit.* Is that okay?

Today I ran a mile for literally the first time ever. Even when I was a kid, I couldn't do it. Y'know how they made you run a mile in elementary school and all that? Never... It would take me like the whole class time to do it 'cause they wouldn't let you quit and I was totally miserable. And now here I am, running a mile. It sounds totally stupid, I know, but I'm pretty proud. On my way to getting in better shape! :D

Warrior Dash and Before and After!

So, today I did the Warrior Dash 5k. It's a trail/mud run, full of obstacles and craziness. I ran up hills, crawled through the mud under barbed wire, jumped over hurdles, walked over rope bridges, swam across a freezing pond, climbed...calling it a 5k doesn't do it justice. It was a BLAST. I think I can put mudders on my list of favorite things to do, ever. It blows my mind to think even a year ago, there's no way I could have done this. I wouldn't have been able to run a regular 5k, much less do something like this. It makes me so happy. (Right now I just have pictures after I finished, but the race will put up their professional pictures in a few days, and hopefully I'll comb through the thousands of pictures to find mine. I hope they have them organized by times!)

My mom came to take pictures, and as I was flipping through the pictures on her phone, I ran across some old ones from last fall - and they just shocked me. I don't remember being that overweight. I'm so proud of how far I've come, though.

So, there we have it. From 220 pounds to 148, in around a year. I feel so good about the way I've changed my life, and you guys have all played a huge part in it! I couldn't have done it without the encouragement and challenges of this community. <3

Mission FOUR: Just a Little More

Successful, lasting weight management has three areas; food, exercise, and what happens in your head. For this mission, I want you to put just a little more effort into at least one of these areas. Spend a bit of time honestly looking at your own program and see what area(s) could use a bit of attention. Then decide what you will do to give just a little more. I've listed some ideas for each area but feel free to do what YOU need to do for YOUR program!

So, I did The Color Run this morning. ( http://www.thecolorrun.com if you aren't familiar with it)

As luck would have it, it was sprinkling off and on until the race started...and then it POURED. So we ended up looking more like we'd been in some strange war, because all the colors mixed together in the rain. (Or they did if like me, you went around rubbing colors all over yourself. There was also a moshpit.)

Despite the rain - I'm tempted to say because of the rain - it was the most fun I've ever had at a race. AMAZING.
